Re: What is an animal totem?
Hello again
Animal totems are wonderful ways for us to learn insights into ourselves. I have done work with the enneagram, there are 9 personality types in the way I learned it and each type has an animal or animals associated with it. Very useful for figuring out how oneself is in the world. I also feel that animals, in spirit, are with us too, not just people type guides. Animal totems or guides help bring a certain energy in that can help one in life. Like a lion for strength, a beaver to help one get things done, a ferret for curiousity, rabbits for fertility and so on. I find it all very facinating. I found my animal totems when doing a vision quest, mine are horse, deer, and fox. They came in dream on the quest. I will share the dream if anyone is interested and how I did the vision quest so that others can do it for themselves if they want.

Re: What is an animal totem?
I love animals and so I am interested in anything to do with them. I think that totems are very valuable insight into our instincts. I have a coupl e of animal decks and I sometimes use them to find a person's animal spirits or totems.
Raksha what do you think then?

Re: What is an animal totem?
All I really know about animal totems is what I've learnt from reading online, there does seem to be quite a few different views on what they are though depending on each individuals beliefs & practices.
I do feel drawn to the Native American concept in that each person has nine animal totems one for each point direction, north, east, south & west, one above, one below, one within, one that walks to the right of us & one that walks to the left of us. I still need to do a little more research but so far to me it would seem that these nine animal totems are if you like reflections of each individual persons soul & that if we were to take on board & follow their teachings we might perhaps have a better understanding of ourselves.
